Reasons to be cheerful
All this talk about the imminent collapse of the western capitalist system and the doom and gloom that it has engendered is actually beginning to get me down. Worse still, it's starting to bore me. For these reasons, I felt it was time to inject my own 'good' sentiment to lighten up the mood. Here are some reasons to be cheerful:
Model 500, Laurent Garnier, Regis and Moritz Van Oswald are all playing the DEAF festival in Dublin in a few weeks time;
Hardwax have got a great load of Maurizio/Basic Channel/Chain Reaction etc back catalogue for sale on their online store;
I'm off to Berlin the week after next - when I'm there, Mathew Jonson is playing live (he's also playing live the next night in Dublin, so don't get too jealous);
Donnacha Costello's new record would cheer up even an unemployed Wall Street broker and Sandwell District have got a new record out soon;
Alex Cortex is flirting with Chicago house and it sounds amazing;
The internet is full of great sets from people who aren't part of the DJ elite - Steffi and Silvent Servant being two of many examples;
STL is great, isn't he?
Seeing as we're in a recession, everyone is going to get more creative - expect to hear even more great music soon;
There are only 85 days left until Christmas.
Hurray!
hear hear! agreed on all points. the costello ep is a beauty. that and the new melchoir both bring very big smiles to my face.

Mathew Jonson was the best performance I've seen this year, mindblowing, you'll enjoy it. The only thing that's getting me down is the glut of music I can't afford!

Great post...I actually live in nyc now at the heart of this mess so its great to hear someone talk about something positive! My escape from work has been all the great stuff coming out!
Also, I've heard many times ppl mention that recession usually sparks creativity and some amazing art / music...Anyone know of examples to back this idea?

Well, much of Detroit and Chicago weren't exactly brimming with prosperity in the 80's...

Yeah...that's a great point. Also the disco scene and the first 'modern' clubs came to be during the 70s which was a time very similar to now in America...An unpopular war, unpopular president, high oil prices, atrocious stock market etc. Hopefully we get some nice music out of it.
