Pieces in the post

I still get that childish feeling of excitement when I go to open my post, and today, when I tore open my mail, I was like a sugar-deprived six year old who has been given the keys to a sweet shop. I found compilations by Sender, Cadenza and Minus, and fresh new vinyl from Pascal FEOS, Daniel Mehlhart, Claro Intelecto - a taster for his debut album - and Matt Chester. There's also a remix package of Infinti's 'Game One' on my desktop: it was and still is one of my favourite techno records, so I'm not sure about hearing remixes of it, but at least they're by Orlando Voorn, so fingers crossed he's done a good job. One of the things I've noticed about getting digital promos is that most of them are fairly crap, and that a higher percentage of good tunes still arrive in physical format. I'm not sure if that is more to do with my own tastes, the fact that a lot of promo emails have been forwarded to thousands of people, like spam, in the hope that one or two peopel will bite, or the fact that because it is easier and cheaper to be 'digital only' means that the quality drops (I'm sure loads of people will disagree with me on this last point). Maybe it's a combination of all these factors. In the meantime, I'm going to get busy listening to the new arrivals.
Now if only that new parcel from Juno would finally show up - containing records by Traxx, Redshape and the hard to track down Tobias Freund - I'd be even happier...

I agree with you. It's getting old now I know, but to put another Beatport dig in there, the amount of shitty labels with shitty artists and shitty releases firing out a new release every two days makes it disheartening to wade through.

there's no risk involved for these guys and if people like beatport keep just accepting any and all labels that approach them, then its going to keep happening. they need to tighten up their quality control

Of course there are many great releases on digital only labels, but its harder to find them. the word and sounds store is good, I also like boomkats selection of stuff, although their player is quite slow.

and to add to your point, I wish electrohouse labels would stop spamming me! I do not, did not and will not play electrohouse.. they obviously don't do any research.

I have to admit I love the feeling of having new records delivered as well, but I'm hardly ever in when the postie delivers so I usually require a trip round the corner to the depot when I get in. I'm usually sensible and refrain from opening the packaging before I get home. This week I've had that joy three times (payday last week, 2 x Juno and 1 x Boomkat). Of course I made the obligatory trip to my local vinyl merchant as well at the weekend, got to show support.

Is it just me or is the variety of vinyl on offer on Juno somewhat poorer lately - perhaps they are concentrating on their digital offerings a little much?). Also I've noticed that there is much less of a turnover in their vinyl charts lately as well - I would guess something to do with more business being done on the digital site?

I wouldn't have thought Juno's Digital was doing that well, it has a woeful selection. Like Beatport minus the good stuff.

To be honest that was just an assumption, I've not really checked out their digital offerings.

hey chap. are your RSS feeds down at the mo?
