In the flicker of an eye
Hope you all had a good weekend - there’s another track that myself and Ed did after the weekend, up on the promo page . It’s called ‘Eye Flick’ and we feel it’s the best thing that we’ve done yet. Although we both have definite ideas as to how this project should sound, it’s taking a while for us to get it down to a tee. However, this is the best shot so far. Any feedback, good or bad, is appreciated. I’m also going to be interviewing Weatherall and Tenniswood about their brilliant new guitar-based Swordsmen album tomorrow, so if you have any questions you’d like me to ask, fire them over today.
I enjoyed this one more. The drum programming is very good and progresses well, and the overall sound is good and deep. I would say that some more obvious progression in the arrangement is needed, something that is significantly different at the end of the track than the beginning - while there is a bit of progression it's not very obvious. But I'll be interested to hear more.

This is head and shoulders above the other two tracks (which to be brutally honest I'm not wild about). This has a really nice dirty, tripped out warehouse feel and hypnotic groove. Reminds me a bit of Sebo K. Love the acidy synth line. I think some of the placement of cymbals gets in the way of the groove and personally would rethink them. Also I'm not wild about the bass drum sound. But that's just little things, there's the makings of a very good track. The best bit for me is at 3:41. It really takes it off into a different direction. Personally I'd build more to that moment and then you could have a proper shit yer pants moment! I'd agree with the previous poster in that it could do with progressing into something different after this, rather than just reintroducing the original elements.

I really loved the sense of space in the track. Im not sure exactly what the element is, but the watery padish sound really helps open things up and provide the counterpoint needed.
I agree that the cymbals are kinda bugging (the quality and character of them is fine), it just seems like they dont have a real place or are anchored by any of the other elements.

yo richard,
I think the track has promise but sounds a bit too basic to be usable in this climate IMO. Here's a few things that I would do if I had my hands on it;
a) flesh it out with some more subtly placed sounds and samples
b) use different drum sounds... I'm getting a sort of standard presetty vibe off the drums - I think it would benefit more by using less obvious drum samples or doing some sound mangling and taking recordings of metal clacking and making the drum sounds out of it.
c) Improve the sequence - it doesn't really seem to go anywhere for me.
d) I think you are going for a raw sound here but the end effect is more underproduced than raw. Not to add fuel to hardware vs software debate but a raw feeling can be achieved a lot better if you use hardware as the qualities of the hardware shine through with minimal effort. Its possible to attain with software too but it requires much more effort and perserverence I find.
Yeah so to summarize I would use less obvious drum samples, hardware if you can get your hands on or if not, add in subtle noises and effects to give it a better sense of space.
But the very best advice I ever received from someone is never listen to anyone else and go with your gut feeling!! So disregard everything I just said :)
